Our hands are important when it comes to touching , feeling and communicating with others. Maybe that’s why they have an important role in the healing process, whether it is providing a treatment – or, indeed, getting a treatment. Hand Reflexology is a very simple but effective therapy and clients find the treatments are pleasant and deeply relaxing. While some consider it a poor cousin of Foot Reflexology, Hand Reflexology is often more convenient and can be as effective as Foot Reflexology.
Hand Reflexology is a better choice in situations such as:
- The client presents with warts, athlete’s foot etc..
- Foot injuries
- When the feet are so sensitive that touching them undue pain
- When clients are amputees
- When access to the feet is restricted as in the case of wheelchair or customers who can not raise his legs
- When the client is ashamed or refuses to show her feet
- When there is a need for discretion, for example in hospital
- Self treatment
- Homework for clients
- When Foot Reflexology does not seem to stimulate healing response or treatment progress has slowed down or stopped.
There are also times when it may be used as First Aid:
- On the bus, boat, plane
- While standing or in a small or closed space
- To give comfort to someone in shock
To educate and inform the public:
- Trade fairs, exhibitions when delegates not want to show her feet
- To demonstrate the reflex points in lectures and conferences
Working hands and feet increases the effectiveness of treatment, especially when we want the response to treatment faster.
Some reflexologists have been found to have better results working hands, especially in cases of intestinal problems, headaches, sinusitis, and osteo-articular problems.
